POWER AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES
The PPM is designed to provide a measure of both one’s potential and current skill level in a
wide range of occupational settings.
The battery consists of nine separate tests.
1. Applied Power Test measures one’s ability to solve problems through logical reasoning. It does not depend on prior knowledge.
2. Processing Speed Test requires accuracy in recognizing a stimulus and responding to it. This is a clerical test that reveals an ability to order data systematically.
3. Mechanical Understanding Test is a test of an individual's understanding of the basic principles of dynamics, presented in the form of mechanical devices and situations
involving forces.
4. Numerical Computation Test requires the application of the basic rules of numeric.
Problems are presented in the accepted mathematical sequence. Experience shows that
people who really are numerate perform well on this test even though they may have
forgotten about mental arithmetic.
5. The Numerical Reasoning Test requires an understanding of the relationships between sets
of numbers. It is a good predictor of academic performance as well as an indicator of an
individual's ability to solve problems involving numbers.
6. The Spatial Ability Test is a test of the ability to visualize objects in three dimensions.
Problems are presented two-dimensionally and subjects must rotate and turn over shapes in the "mind's eye"
7. Perceptual Reasoning Test is a reasoning test based on non-verbal principles and is
predictive for areas involving science and technology.
8. The Verbal Comprehension Test is a good academic predictor as well as a measure of
current verbal proficiency. It is a measure of comprehension of an increasingly complex
vocabulary.
9. The Verbal Reasoning Test measures the ability to deduce or extrapolate conclusions by
logical reasoning even in the absence of specific information. It is a good predictor of
occupational level and is a useful indicator of the ability to understand and communicate.

Administration; Scoring: The battery is simple to administer, instructions for each test are included in both the Technical Manual and the Question Booklet. Answer sheets have built-in scoring keys, making them self-scoring. The Technical Manual contains full details of the battery's development as well as reliability and validity data. Norm tables include norms for specific job groups as well as general and manager populations.
